This sculpture is a personal favorite of mine - it's one of Deborah Butterfield's series of horse sculptures. I like the layers of natural distance Butterfield adds without losing a natural feel - this sculpture is made of bronze that looks like driftwood unless you touch it, the driftwood is formed to look like a horse, and that horse is placed in an unnatural urban setting (in this case, a sculpture garden in Portland). Still, dealing with the sculpture in 3 dimensions, you really feel as if it were a horse that could move at any moment.
